Garden Of Rememberance - Dublin
 The Garden of Remembrance is situated on the north side of Parnell Square, at the top of O'Connell Street. It was established in 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising and is dedicated to all who died during this time in the struggle for Irish independence. A large sculpture by Oisin Kelly dominates the park. It depicts characters from the tragic Irish legend of the Children of Lir, in which four children were turned into swans by their stepmother. This is one of Ireland's oldest legends. The centre of the park consists mainly of a large rectangular pond with a mosaic depicting swords and shields. Admission to the park is free. MORE... |
