Merrion Square Park with Oscar Wilde Statue - Dublin
 The Garden is on the north side of Parnell Square, at the top of O'Connell Street. The Garden was established in 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising and is dedicated to all who died during this time in the struggle for Irish independence. A large sculpture by Oisin Kelly dominates the park. It depicts characters from the tragic Irish legend of the Children of Lir, in which four children were turned into swans by their stepmother. The centre of the park consists mainly of a large rectangular pond showing a mosaic of swords and shields. You can also view Oscar Wilde's house alongside the park. MORE... |
